Winter Fundraising Banquets

Winter Fundraising Banquets

A Table for Sharing!

Nearly 600 people attended four banquets over two weekends to support MCC’s work, transforming communities through education. Each banquet was unique in terms of venue and meal with host churches providing both and going the extra mile to create a pleasing atmosphere.

Wayne Bremner, Executive Director for MCC BC and Phil Schafran, Director of Resource Development and Communications shared speaking duties over the two weekends and musical entertainment was provided by three different groups; The Watchmen Four, J.D. Miner and Cale Stanage – all were enthusiastically received.

Bremner and Schafran shared stories from MCC’s work in bringing education to communities, much of which is done through MCC’s Global Family Program. (hotlink to GF website) MCC’s approach to sponsorship is community based, where sponsors support community education projects (rather than individual children) which in turn transforms whole communities so that no one is left out.

“What is also significant is the degree to which the projects are holistic, in that they also focus on providing food, clean water, adequate shelter in addition to school supplies and teachers,” Schafran says.

Bremner also indicated that the significance of an education cannot be underestimated.

“For every year of education that a boy or girl receives, their income increases by 10% a year,” he says. “education is the most effective way to reduce poverty.”

The four banquets raised over $36,000 for MCC’s relief, development and peace work worldwide.

“We are grateful for the faithful support of our constituency,” Bremner said.
