Workshops – learning more!
Onsite Workshops: 1. The Anatomy of a Disaster – Willie Reimer, Director of Food, Disaster and Material Resources. Learn what happens at MCC from the moment a disaster strikes. 2. Responding to the Hunger Crisis – Bruce Guenther, Program Coordinator MCC Food, Dsaster and Material Resources. This workshop will explore the causes of the hunger crisis and how MCC is working with our partners to address the increased need. 3. Serving in the Name of Christ: Where Creativity means Practicality - Dave Hiebert and MCC BC Material Resources Staff. Join us for a hands-on, interactive workshop as we look at the effects of consumerism and its effect on both our local and global community. 4. Abuse Prevention – Elsie Goerzen, Program Coordinator. Home is the place where we expect to find refuge and sustenance, through supportive relationship, through shared bread, through encouragement. For too many people in our congregations, however, this is not their reality. The workshop will examine beliefs that lead to abusive behaviour, and explore ways to bring healing to wounded people. Offsite Workshops – Transportation and lunch will be provided 1. Backroom Dealings – Doug Willms, MCC BC Provincial Thrift Shop Coordinator, Ryan Klassen Vancouver Thrift Manager. Take a trip to the Vancouver MCC Thrift Shop and get a behind the scenes look at how we work! 2. Food and a Home, Concept & Reality – Chris Eigbike, New Foundations Program Coordinator. Food is not the exotic and faddish item that the corporate world paints of it, making it inaccessible and unaffordable for the poor. Learn how MCC helps people on low incomes feed their families with nutritious food. Enjoy a meal prepared by participants of this project that helps newcomer, single mothers as they begin a new life in Canada. 3. MCC Foodbank at Sherbrooke – Jennifer Mpungu, Refugee Program Coordinator and Jamie Sprague, Settlement Worker. Visit this unique foodbank created specifically for newcomers and refugees as they begin new life in Canada. 4. Place of Refuge – Erich Krause, PoR Board Chair. This unique partnership with MCC and Vancouver churches provides a shelter for those recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. Join us to learn more about this exciting ministry. 5. A Taste of Essentials – visit the MCC Employment offices in Richmond and enjoy a smorgasbord of employment opportunities offered by MCC’s Employment and Community Development department. |
